Can all wired hubs be used to "split" an internet connection?

I'm trying to split an internet connection between 2 computer a mere 5 feet away from each other. A wireless router would work, except I don't want to spend that much for something a simple hub can easily do. What should I look for in a hub to do the job? I have a hub that I use to connect multiple Xbox consoles together, but it will not allow you to get online through the hub.

1. if your looking to get on the internet with both computers your going to need a router, a simple hub won't do the trick. http://www.samstownecenter.com/merchant_directory/computers_electronics.htm
2. You could use a hub but man, hubs are so damn old and switches are so much better while costing about the same at this point. If you really want, a hub would work but you'll have better performance using a switch or wireless router in your case.
