I am desperate to start some type of home business so I can stay home. I have multiple health issues.?

I have missed a lot of work because of my illnesses. Plus I have pressure from both my husband & mother in law to stay working. They say that today's families have to have both husband and wife working. I love the work I do but it is too hard to go to work everyday and take care home too. Plus my job is a very high stress job. I work in insurance claims. I am pretty crafty but I can't cook. I enjoy books also. I'm a pretty good typist but I think that is a thing of the past with everyone so computer literate now days. I have been selling something on ebay but that is mostly used stuff I found around the house. Does anyone have any ideas?

I can't think of anything you can do when you are sick at home or missing a lot of work. You probably earn more than you could get taking care of children and you would need to be super reliable to do that. Working at home you wouldn't get medical, dental, vacations, sick pay, FMLA, or paid holidays. Maybe you can work on reducing stress at work and even have them cut your hours. Working full time and caring for a house requires everyone in the house to do their part, it isn't just you. My guy cleans moss off the roof, pressure washes the patio, maintains the yard equipment and the plumbing and stuff indoors and will still do laundry if he needs something washed or I ask him to carry baskets up flights of stairs for me. This week he is taking the bass gear out of the boat, adding the other fishing gear we need for vacation, making sure the batteries are charged and cleaning and stocking the camper and since we aren't going for another week he will get the gear ready for fishing at the river this weekend so it isn't all on me.
Have you asked your employer if you can work at home, at least part of the week? it seems that you could with insurance.
There are various books on Amazon. I did a quick search and found: Weekend Entrepreneur: 101 Great Ways to Earn Extra Cash (Paperback); Home-Based Business for Dummies; The Stay-at-Home Mom's Guide to Making Money from Home; 101 Best Home-Based Businesses for Women, 3rd Edition: Everything You Need to Know About Getting Started on the Road to Success (For Fun & Profit). I've used the Amazon search function over the years and in my experience it misses many hits/matches...I prefer to use the category search to be more comprehensive. I also prefer only to buy books with high star ratings and/or good reviews. Ebay and other sites also have new and used books at lower rates than some of the more recognizable online stores. What about reviewing/editing books or publications? Also, I don't know your health/living situation, but besides more traditional work, maybe baby sitting for a wealthy family? Or knitting clothes or creating some kind of art and selling them on ebay or amazon? Typists are still employed, there just called word processors. Check out indeed.com or other job search sites, or just google your city/town and type the word 'job' after it and see what comes up. I've heard that "stress is related to 99% of all illness". Maybe a less stressful job would be better for your health. Either way, job search/creation takes time. It just doesn't happen overnight, so remind whoever is nagging you about this and stay positive!

I can't add to what has been said to you; these people obviously have deeper and richer life experiences than I. I am, however, rather old-fashioned and I can add a couple comments for your husband. Buddy, Skeever is not your meal ticket. It is your responsibility to provide and protect. You knew that at some point perhaps she would need to take a leave from the workplace for maternity. Plan and live on what you alone make. You know that she has some health problems. Plan and live on what you alone can make. If you have big-boy toys, get rid of them and the payments. Live on what you alone can make. It is your responsibility to pay any price to provide for your family and that includes planning to live within that provision. And what is your mother doing in this process? You need to stand like a rock wall between your mother and your wife. Your mother needs to know that if she forces your hand you will favor your wife every time. Tell mom to butt out. Skeever, you will not need to make as much at home as you did in the workplace to be at the same level. You will not have transportation, clothing, lunches out, office gifts, etc and all those costs. You may even be able to change your vehicle arrangements to cut costs. You will be able to avoid pre-made foods and restaurant / fast food. Making your own at home is about 1/2 the cost. And those savings are tax free! To work in insurance claims you are obviously smart and you will figure out ways to use portions of your at-home time to save on expenses Best wishes Craig
