How can I split a PDF file into multiple PDF files automatically where a blank page is found?

I've just purchased a Scanjet 5590 scanner, and am in the process of scanning masses of paperwork in the house. The scanner scans bundles of paper using the automatic document feeder to PDF format. What I would really like to do is bundle lots of different documents together and insert a blank or separator page between different documents and then automatically split the generated PDF into individual document files where the blank / seperator page is found in the PDF. I've tried to find software that will recognise separator pages and split PDFs but it all seems to be too expensive! Is there some free or cheap software available that will fit my needs? I don't have Adobe Acrobat so an Acrobat plugin will not do the job. I've found software that will split individual pages but it's not sophisticated enough to offer recognition of blank/separator pages. Many thanks for the suggestion Scott. Foxit Software seem to offer some good tools, but I've contacted them and they don't offer software to split on blank/separator page at the moment. Any other takers?
