My resume shows I worked at multiple jobs for a total of 32 years how can I cut down the total years I worked?

My resume shows I had been employed for a total of 32 years at different positions. I have everything dated on my resume for each job. I feel I can not find employment because of age discrimination. Is there something I can eliminate on my resume as far as dates go? The dates on my resume go back to 1975 when I started working and ended at the beginning of 2007. I had three office positions within these dates. The first position was at a company from 1975-1996 alone. If someone has some advice on what to do I could use your help. I thought working for a long period of time was a good thing but I guess now a days it leads to job discrimination. I have been looking for employment for the past year and cannot find any temp, fulltime or part time work because of my age and I want to work. Should I take off my resume the very first job I ever had back in 1975?

  1. take off the very first few jobs... just make sure there are no huge gaps in employment after that, without a good explanation.
  2. just redo your Cv with only the 5 most recent jobs then at the end of your Cv you can write that you worked for more employers and thet you can give the info it requested
  3. Use the heading: Relevant employment during the last ten years:
  4. just list the past 10 - 15 years. use "recent work history" or something similar.
  5. You are not required to put dates on your resume. It can, indeed, be a draw back. Many older persons will only highlight parts of their experience on their resume. I recommend a book by Regina Pontow, "Proven Resumes". It was recommended to me several years ago by someone at an employment agency. It helped me hugely in rewriting my resume to highlight my experience. She specifically addressed how to write your resume to avoid age discrimination.
  6. Seek out a professional resume writer/career coach. It may cost you some coin upfront, but will payoff in the long run. I have, somewhat, changed professions over the years. I knew what type of position I was looking for and the career coach redirected my resume to show my strong suits, as needed, for the goal I wanted to reach. I had 10 original resumes, on nice paper, and a disc done for $300. I ended up obtaining a position with a Fortune 500 Company. After having mine done, I did my father's (he was with Lucent Tech for 40 plus years and retired)...too much info for a modern resume. It is all in the way it is set up. Good Luck and I hope this helped!
