How do I find local singing jobs?

I'm a full-time student working on my Bachelor's in Recording Arts. Since I won't be working a part-time job... I thought maybe I could earn money here and there from singing. I'm not really an actress. I haven't done it since private school as a kid. Even then, I ended up running the lights instead of acting. I've tried doing the extra in a commercial thing, and it was miserable! I hated it! lol As far as my voice... I have a deep/sultry blues-jazz kind of voice. Others have said my tone is similar to Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, and Jojo. How could I go about getting anything local I can?? I am a songwriter as well. I am aware of the going out performing my own music. I just want something more immediate while the legal protection gets taken care of. No american idol either. I'm not into playing the lottery with that show (or giving up school to go to hollywood). I want something where I can get a job and get a check while in school.

2. find a talent agent, first. Or if your voice is good, go for Americas Got Talent or American Idol This month or next year.
3. maby advertise in a newspaper or even a paper sign with your number *shrug* ??? i don't know
4. Sing where-ever they don't kick U out!LOL but seriously, the "Jonas Brothers" were discovered at a barber shop. miranda Cosgrove was dicovered in A resteraunt. Go for what U want! Apply where-ever there is a spot.
5. where are you located? Get into a studio and record. Get a band together and start getting gigs .......you don't say what instrument you play, so it's difficult to give you advice that is correct.
