Latin - finding the stem of first declension nouns?

I'm just starting latin, and i need help identifying the latin stem of these words(if you could explain to me how to do it, that would be great): agricola poeta femina peulla insula vita lingua aqua memoria littera fortuna silva amiticia

1. For the 1st declension, just take the final -a off, then add the appropriate case ending (-ae, -am, -as, etc)
