How do I find good job openings for local orchestra performances?

I'm just curious onto how I have all these friends who find good jobs with local orchestras and gigs and all that good stuff, but the only jobs/gigs I've had were suggested to me only because I had this one connection. How do I go about looking for local music jobs for Viola players?
