42% Say People Randomly Selected from Phone Book Better Than Current Congress? What do you think?

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/august_2009/42_say_people_randomly_selected_from_phone_book_better_than_current_congress "Forty-two percent (42%) of U.S. voters say a group of people randomly selected from the phone book would do a better job than the current Congress. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that an identical number (42%) disagree, but 16% are not sure. Last fall, just 33% thought the random group could do as good a job. Today, Republicans by a two-to-one margin believe that the phone book sample would be better than the current Democratic-controlled Congress. Democrats, by a similar margin, have the opposite view. A slight plurality of those not affiliated with either major party say the randomly selected group would do a better job. " Thoughts? ryoshi, you are welcome to 'my guy' - he had a 17% approval rating yet ran unopposed last time. you can have my two 'gals' as well.

Public Comments

  1. People are willing to give street walkers a higher rating than our congress people.
  2. I agree 100%
  3. Who's to blame for the idiots in power? We are. We voted them in.
  4. The occupants of a short yellow bus would be better than the current members in congress
  5. I agree 100%. I think most primates found at your local zoo would do a better job than our current congress.
  6. Remember that over 50% of those randomly selected people voted for Obama and sent their brain-dead congressmen back to Washington. So no, a random selection from the phone book is not a good idea. Instead, let ME select the president, congress, and the supreme court. We'll be WAY better off.
  7. I think after a week 100% of those people would be begging for the old group back.
  8. ever find it funny that most people think Congress sucks, but they like "their guy".
  9. I think the statistic says a lot more. If randomness can out perform or match up with specificity, what does that tell you?
  10. I agree
  11. I think that you could choose 1/2 of Congress at random from participants in the Special Olympics, and the other half from a Home for Alzheimer patients and you'd still have a brighter and more effective Congress than we have now.
  12. Rassmussen forget to factor in that a lot of people are just plain idiots.
  13. Dam! Great idea! Lets do that instead of the next election!
  14. Tell you what--- you pay me a hundred and sixty thousand a year, give me the best health care possible, private plane trips all over the world whatever; I promise to show up for sessions, read the bills from top to bottom and pay attention to wants and needs of the people who elected me into office. Guessing for that kind of money and perks most Americans would do the same. How the hell did we find these political jerks now occupying our Congressional seats? Back room power brokers and Unions
  15. Please do 'those people" *not trying to sound racist) understand how much trouble it is to create an illusion of giving a hoot about the people, while accepting that $3 billion from the lobbyists? Yes there are those few gems that are on our side, but the vast majority are nuts, look at the Speaker, you cannot yell me she is not on two or three SSRIs. The chance of good change or the odds are in the favor of the people by using the phone book, but you might want to choose the town. ha, ha. OH I see you are using that right wing polling service I use the SEIU poll. Ham, ha, just kidding, I still see them putting that up when yo use about the least biased polling service in the country. Thanks for the link.
