Search and Resque helicopter requirements?

What are the requirements to become a search and rescue helicopter pilot? Can you only get a job with the search and rescue through the army? what are the salaries/benefits?

1. First step would be to become a helicopter pilot. What country are you in. Where I am rescue helicopters are commercial contractors. No need to be an army pilot.
2. The USAF also has a SAR mission, using HH-60s and HC-130Ps. College degree and getting lucky with the pilot training slots are the basic requirements.
3. i don't know how in the continental US, however SAR over sea around the US is performed by the USCG. There are units of various branches that are SAR capable, however these are most likely CASR dedicated and supplement the genuine SAR service where necessary to increase the search/rescue capacity. In Europe, most countries have specific military units dedicated to the SAR.
