How do you find out if a certain degree is useful and will be able find you jobs?

Many people tell that certain degrees like english or political science are not useful and won't get you jobs. Were do people find that information?

1. They are wrong. The point is that a degree doesn't "get you jobs". You get you jobs. You use your degree, the skills which you learnt, and your own imagination in applying that degree to get jobs.
