- A) The Navy may not be hiring. BUT if you want the job, don't settle until that's what your contract reads. B) It's not difficult as long as you DO NOT accept anything less than what you want. C) AW's aren't very smart so I say the ASVAB can't be high. D) It's an aircrew job, so expect a lot of early mornings in basic walking your happy behind all the way over to the pool to work out everyday. E) Aircrew training in basic, and further training once you graduate. It's not easy, I hope you're athletic. F) The Navy is always full time. AW's seem to have a lot of fun though. You could really enjoy it. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me.
- Most of those questions are recruiter based, the Navy, Air Force, and Marines tend to change stuff a lot, so your best bet is to talk to a recruiter, even a retired Navy veteran may be outdated/wrong on a lot of things. The one that I can clear up is, if you join as Active then all of your jobs are full time, part time is Reserves. Just talk to a recruiter, there is no obligations until you sign that contract. Also you won't know if the job has an opening until you get to MEPS likely, so watch yourself there and think up other jobs you may like. You may want to look into other branches as well, the Air Force for one has a special forces called Para-rescue, similar to what you want, so you might consider that.
- Im going to say first, that i was never in the navy, but i did serve in the US ARMY and I have friends that served in the NAVY and Coast Guard who performed jobs/missions very simular to what you are describing. First, have you spoken to a NAVY recruiter? If you do, you should tell them that this is what you are intrested in, then they will let you know whether or not you can enlist specifically for this job. Usually, speaking generally here you can enlist for a specific job or a location, and then its up to you to pass your basic training and whatever advanced training is needed before they will assign you to whatever you have requested. I know that the US Coast Guard also performs Search and Rescue Operations utilizing rescue swimmers, so Id recomend that you also check with a Coast Guard recruiter too. These operations do require a high level of physical fitness and usually the sailors performing them are part of more specialized groups, so you may be required to enlist for a unit/rating and then pass schools and training before you will be assigned to that specific unit.
