Were you disappointed with the winner of this years Design Star?
I was. Antonio does bring a different hosting vibe but his designs were not the best. Like Vern kept pointing out his scale of furniture and furniture placement always left something to be desired. He never offered any great/creative storage solutions either. Dan did a great job with built in storage, which both Candice and Vern recognized the importance of. He also did a phenomenal job with small spaces as Vern does. Dan did a great job at making multiple uses of one space. His white room challenge was by far the best. I was glad that 1. They didn't pick a female. 2. They didn't chose a feminine male. I think that Antonio was chosen for his unorthodox hosting, not his design.

- I completely agree with you. I think that Dan was far superior to Antonio in every challenge as far as design goes. The only real mistake he made was with the gazebo - and Antonio played just as much of a part in that as Dan. Dan's white room challenge was crazy - that design alone should have assured him to win! As far as Antonio's unorthodox hosting, I think it was overrated. I don't think that he will do well with his own design show. I think he treated the other contestants horribly and he always gave me the impression he thought he was better than everyone else. I definitely will not be watching any show he has on HGTV.
- I have to respectfully disagree. I thought that Antonio was the best and should've won -- if you take into consideration all of their work. They also considered their hosting personalities and whose was better (again, Antonio won this, too). However, I was a bit dissapointed with Antonio's design for the child's room. It really didn't offer much as far as storage space and thought that Dan did do a great job on this point. But, did you notice that they both had very similar ideas (tv storage in the living room and even the color choices). I also chose Antonio because he really does LISTEN to and OBSERVE his clients as to what they want and gives them that and more. Dan seemed to pick up that quality but only for the last job. Remember when they worked together and Antonio refused to go with their color of paint? Anyway....I guess we just differ in opinions -- but, I think that Antonio's show will offer -- not only great designs -- but, a different way of hosting a show. I look forward to it. ps: Did you watch the Food Network's Next Star? On that show, I did not pick the person who won.
- Of the two that were left Dan had better style but Antonio hosted better. Dan's giggling was so annoying.Personally I think Loni should have won.
- Not at all. Dan truly is a great designer with an impecable eye for color and space...but I think what drew me to Antonio was his off-beat personality...and his ability to bring "artsiness" back into interior design. Functionality and practicality are great things, don't get me wrong...but HGTV is already packed with design shows that key on that. I'm looking forward to watching Antonio bring whimsy and 'heart' to the genre.
- Yes, I was too. Antonio does have a different hosting ability, but so does David Bromstien(however you spell it). Antonio is ok in his designing abilities but not at all the best. His ideas are not at all practical. Lack of storage is a definite. But c'mon judges! In this last challenge, he had no storage for a little boy. I have seen some of Candice's kids room and she specifically designs them so it can grow with the child. One dresser?! Please. The kid will out grow that room in 3 years at best. And that thing above the fireplace for the TV was cool, but again. It wasn't practical. When opened all the way, the TV cannot be viewed at an angle. It also compromised a walk way in the already narrow room. Which he made worse by placing the couch right in the middle. Also, the stands for it didn't fit well at all. They looked out of place and down right tacky. The only practical thing he has ever done that really stuck out to me was the office with United States thing and the clocks. But like you pointed out, the scale of things in the room didn't add up. The guy can't even decorate himself! He looks a mess with all his random tattoos. He is also too cocky and like another answer said, he had too much of a grudge against other contestants. He, in general, is not a very likable person. Genevieve was his fan from the get-go. I have seen her show I am was not at all impressed so I wasn't surprised to see her behind him 100%. They both have a mediocre style. I hope Dan knows he is not the only one disappointed.
