Is posting your resume to an online job search site okay?

Will I get flooded with advertisements and scandalous job offers? Will my information be abused? Will it actually help my job search?

  1. I would not submit it to any "open" site but there is not a problem if you send it to a specific job you apply for - If general search sites want details then I would keep it vague and not too personal - Unless you know the company who is asking for details -
  2. Stick with "getjob.com", "employmentinsider.com" or "monsterjob.com" actual companies that advertise on television. A lot of jobs require that you apply online, especially if they go through human resources.
  3. Based on the specifics you listed, the answer would be no. Monster.com was hacked once, and a lot of user's information was stolen. Like anything online, whatever you provide can possibly be gather by another individual. Also, many online job sites will e-mail job offers to you constantly, even if you don't qualify for them! It can become incredibly annoying and even discouraging at times. This isn't to say that the internet doesn't offer excellent ways to find jobs online. Keep in mind that many jobs require you to apply online and temp agencies usually list available jobs on their websites. In this sense, google may be the best online job search available! I hope this information is helpful. Good luck with the search!
  4. I wouldn't. But if you do, I would be careful and I would post it confidentially. As this article mentions there is a lot of people who shouldn't have access to this kind of information. http://www.sweetcareers.com/whatshot/post-a-resume-or-not.shtml
  5. Here is what I would do. 1. You will get some work at home type inquiries if you post your resume. And on Free Job Search sites such as ours, you get all of the contact info of the employer/recruiter without even signing up as a free member. On our site would want to sign up if you wanted to apply online for specific jobs, which notifies that employer of your interest, etc. 2. Recruiters on our site have asked us to add a search function for the employers section called Job-Position Seeking. We have recently done this and have encouraged our candidates to fill up that field with keywords that describe the exact position that they are looking for. sales, technology sales, nursing, registered nurse, java developer, etc. Further, if you saw a job on our site that matches what you are looking for, then you would want to use the exact words that the employer/recruiter is looking for in their job posting description. 3. We had an issue in our site which was allowing the spammers to contact every resume posted, but have recently solved that problem. 4. So, the key is to match what the employer is looking for and what your looking for in terms of job descriptions, etc. Take care, http://www.lotsofjobs.net 100% Free Job Search Site.
