What does it mean if a salary is excellent or attractive?
When you search for a job, why are companies so reluctant to tell you straight what the salary is? Instead they say negotiable or excellent. What would you think, roughly obviously, the salary would be? For a Games Programmer?

- if they tell you straight out what a salary is it may discourgae people from finding out more. example job 1: assistant position, amazing job, great pay, awesome benefits job 2: assistant position, salary $15/hr clearly more people would be attracted to job 1's description even if they are the same exact job. you ask salary on an interview
- Yeah, that answer-dodging sounds annoying. Funnily enough, I've done some personal research on programmer salaries in the past, because working with computer games is a profession I've always been interested in. Starter salary is often around £20,000pa, but this can quickly rise up to late twenty/early thirty thousands. The highest salaries (for the most established of programmers) can be up to £1000 a week! Of course, this is becoming an increasingly popular industry, so you'll have to hone all your skills and gain many new ones to make it that far. I'm sure you're more than capable of it. Good luck to you!
- is quite simple: 1. As mentioned, is about marketing, so not telling the salary will attract more candidates 2. Is about money. When is set to negotiable a 75k salary can be the high pay, but if you negotiate to 65k then is a profit chance for the company without you knowing. The best way to figure out what is the salary for a programmer is by checking the salary guide online. Most of the job hunting sites, such as monster and dice, has this guides. Just note that those bases are for programmers that have at least 5 years experience. For a beginner the salaries are a bunch lower. Anyway, use your good sense when searching for a job.
