Are there any paper route jobs available to kids anymore?
My little brother is trying to earn some money this year and thought of a paper route. I had one when I was younger, but can't seem to find any page on the local papers' websites about hiring delivery people. Do papers still hire younger kids? And if so, how would he go about finding listings or an application?

- I PRAY TO JESUS THERE ARE NONE LEFT NOR ANY IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT THERE PROBABLY ALWAYS WILL BE AND YOU WILL LOOK BACK AND HIGHLY REGRET THAT FOR A JOB...
- I had after school paper routes when I was 14 and 15, that was the only way I could make money then. The problem now is news papers only deliver by mail or very early in the morning. Way to early in the morning for school kids to do it any more. It's not a job that kids can do any more.
- I am in my 40's and I think I am one of the last of the generations to have a paper route as a kid. I was 14. Back then we even collected personally from our routes. I got tips and met nice folks. Today it too dangerous with the weirdos out there. I am sure weirdos were around in my young days, but not as many. What your little brother can do to earn extra money is helping neighbors with work around the house that they don't have time to do. Fall is here and there will be many falling leaves and I hate raking leaves and hire young folks to do it. It sounds gross, but shoveling doggie doo, you add an extra small fee. pulling old dying plants in flower beds before it gets cold outside helps. Make a flyer and display it at the grocery store and also ask neighbors that if they need some help that you want to make some money. If you lived in Alaska I would hire him to help me haul some old boxes from my husband's law practice to the shredder. I will hire a junior high student that I hired to help me clear my basement because we had new work done on it. When you get inquiries from folks you do not know, have your parents or any trusted adult family or friend to make sure you are safe. The kid that does some occasional work from me knows my husband and I know his family. If you live in an area where it snows like I do I will hire this young man to shovel my balcony in the winter. My husband and I are older and 2 of our kids now live outside our state and have families of their own and our youngest is too busy with school and work to help with these chores much. I hope this helps because that way he can have pride earning his own money for family gifts or that new bike he really wants. If he is busy enough and ambitious, he can start his own bank account as a trust in his own name that no one can touch except him when he is 18.
