I am a stay at home programmer and like my job for the most part, especially when money was rolling in. The economy sucks now, so my sales are less and some customers are crying about $10 prices when to me that is dirt cheap for a script that can enhance their site for their customers. Anyway, I was thinking about working a regular job again, and it has been 8 years since I worked a regular job and I remember hating every second of it. I searched a few topics here and people say that they hate their job but they still manage to do it, whereas with me I hated every second of it and kept trying to work harder but eventually my body and mind couldn't take it anymore and I would quit. Mainly because: 1. days were way too long. Seemed like most days I was at work for two days straight when it was only 9 hours. 2. I noticed all job listings now have 10 hour shifts. Ok, so with traffic about an hour to get to and from work, by the time you eat, shower, you only have about three hours of free time before you have to go to bed and repeat the same thing all over again. 3. Repetitive job where you already know what coworkers are going to say and act, what you are going to be doing nonstop for hours, really boring. 4. A hole boss in your face bossing you around "get over here now!" like you are a slave. Or if boss is a nice guy who places a ton of pressure on everyone to get the job done ASAP or get fired "go go go now now hussle hussle!!!" for 9 hours per day. 5. I say 9 hours since really with the 30 - 60 minute lunch break you are actually there for 9 hours when it is only an 8 hour shift. 6. Most jobs require you to stand and I cannot stand long before my hamstrings are about to die. I am in great shape and run all of the time, but I cannot stand. I am tall and muscular so I suppose my legs cannot support my weight even though I am not fat. 7. No free time for friends or anything fun anymore. There are guys at the gym who I try to invite to certain events and a lot of them cannot go due to their work schedule. I remember when friends tried to get me to go and I was stuck at work. 8. You only have Sat and Sun off, the busiest times of the week to have free time where everyone is at home blasting music and racing down the street. Long lines at the grocery store and barber shop. 9. You are only allowed to eat when you are told or sleep when you are told. Unlike most people I cannot be wide awake and energetic all day long. I cannot go home and fall asleep at exactly 9 PM every night. Some nights I am wide awake, my sleep schedule is totally random. 10. Co workers who try to tease or mess with you and you cannot get away from them. Usually a group of guys who criticize you. I am single and this one buffed guy used to mess with me at the lunch table every single day asking why I do not eat a fully cooked meal like they do. I just hate a regular job, I rather be a poor person living off of the government than a corporate slave with a daily migraine. Hopefully my programming will always bring in money while at home, I can do that no problem.
