What jobs can an economics major do in the federal government?
Hi. I'm graduating in about 6 months with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. I want to go ahead and get in as many applications for federal jobs as I can. I've gotten about 25 in now and I feel like I've hit a wall with what I am qualified for. I have applied for jobs as an Economist. I have also applied for several jobs as a Contract Specialist. I have found many others that say I qualify with an Economics degree, but I only have 1 accounting class, which is a big downer for most of the listings. Does anyone know, based off of what I just said, if there are any other blanket titles that I could apply for? Thanks

- I have an English degree and I work for the government as an Information Technology Integrator. Really, it doesn't matter what your degree is in because the jobs you will find in the government are extremely widespread. You're going to find it funny that you know so much more than the people who have been working there for years. I think you're on the right path, you probably need to get some more applications in...I got lucky and was hired on my second one, but I know people who have sent in 200+ and still haven't found a job. Tough time to be entering the job market...good luck!
- Apply to many internships and GS-5 positions as you can. You need to polish your KSA (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES) whenever you are applying to the fed. Sell yourself when writing KSA but don't lie. Don't limit yourself to one field. btw. any specialist positions need more than just education.
- Many jobs in business and consulting - economics can be almost like a business major. For graduate-level work, Master's students can get jobs working for finance companies, consulting firms, the government, etc. PhD students can do the same, or find jobs in academia.
