Coast Guard SAR ?

What are the different enlisted jobs available related to SAR other than AST's?? What is the difference between Navy and Coast Guard Search and Rescue jobs?

  1. Thanks for the Question! The Coast Guard has the aviation sar jobs such as AST (or rescue swimmers for folks that dont know our rates). For waterbourne SAR we have Motor Life Boats, we have small boat stations and we deploy small boats from our cutters to help out. All the above are an integrated package. Meaning that it is not uncommon for a USCG C-130 to locate a victim, and a helo and small boat to be dispatched in tandem on complex SAR cases. Back at the SECTOR or Air Station we have SAR controllers who coordinate the activity of the rescue force package. Our other partners are the US Navy and the US Air Force. The Air Force has a group called AFRCC they help coordinate SAR activities with the Coast Guard. Sometimes, we also will have the Air National Guard helos perform rescues. Also the US Navy sometimes participates with their assets. The Coast Guard is the lead military branch on all Maritime Search and Rescue missions. I have to address another poster: The Coast Guard is one of the 5 military branches. We deploy overseas in Iraq and our larger cutters participate as part of part of carrier battle groups. This is law and tradition. *Last year the USCGC Dallas was the first US Naval vessel to arrive in the Country of Georgia after the Russian invasion. Russia called our warship "Battle ship Diplomacy" * The first Coast Guard combat casualty was DC3 Nathan Brukenthal * The Coast Guard has fought in EVERY war the US has ever been in since its founding in 1790. * In WW2 Coast Guardsman delivered Marines to the shores of Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and others * In WW2 Signalman First Class Douglas Munro gave his life saving a detachment of Marines in Guadalcanal. He was awarded with the Medal of Honor.
  2. War Lord is obviously under the care of a physician. Disregard everything he said. The LT is much more diplomatic than me obviously.
