How can the government help people on TANF and other assistance find better paying jobs?
There is a lot of blame and anger but really, what can the governent do? Would just cutting them off from assistance help them find jobs? I wouldn't think that losing your house or going hungry would help in a job hunt. What are your ideas?

- Hunger is an excellent motivator. The more you help people, the more help they need. The easier you make it to be homeless, the more homeless there will be. Giving something away will increase the demand. Unemployment Insurance creates unemployment. Welfare creates poverty.
- "I wouldn't think that losing your house or going hungry would help in a job hunt" absolutely it would. stress forces change. most people arent on government assistance because they really want a job and are trying hard to work, get an education, better themselves, etc. if a person's quality of life is just as good working as not working, why would they change? you think handing them more free money is going to encourage them to do something about their situation? when i was in high school, i was very liberal and thought like you. then i started working with low income people and realized that at least 75% of them are just looking for their next handout rather than trying to help themselves. or they say they are trying to do better but never take any action.
