Job listings not on company Web site?

I keep finding job listings on employment Web sites (indeed, etc.). I click on the job and it takes me to another job board (non-company) Web site and asks me to login. However, when I go straight to the company that is hiring's Web site I can't seem to find the job. This has happened several times, and the postings claim to be recent. Is it a scam or is it using old data? Has anyone else encountered this issue?

1. It sounds like an obsolete (old) job posting. Indeed and other job search sites allow employers to generate a job posting into xml file, than upload the xml file onto their site. Unfortunately, these sites may not be notified if a particular job is removed or filled from the company's site.
