Can I file California taxes in Colorado?
I Recently moved to Colorado from California and received the last of my tax forms. I need to go to a person that prepares taxes because I was unable to do them online because I didn't know my adjusted taxes from last year. Before I drive out looking for a tax preparer I wanted to know if it's possible to still do them here in Colorado. Thank You!! Thanks for your great answers, you were all very helpful :o)

- Yes any where the internet reaches
- I'm sure the IRS thinks so.
- *Sorry just noticed you said adjusted taxes, not AGI, but maybe the IRS can help with that too. I would call if it were me, it will save you money if you're able to do federal online. Your can get last years AGI by calling the IRS and verifying your identity by telling them last years filing status, number of exemptions or dependents you claimed last year, you name and social. If you somehow still can't get your AGI, yes you can file taxes from Colorado for when you worked in California. I moved states midyear, and did mine online. You (or tax preparer) can just add 2 W-2s and other applicable forms instead of 1 for federal. You have to file seperately for state though.
- Yes. Make sure the tax prep you use is familiar with all the current tax info in california. The tax prep will cover all the forms you will need to sign & fill out and after that it's just a matter of mailing them to the irs/treasury witch again, the tax prep should provide the info for. I live in Florida but do my tax's through a prep in Mississippi so your in good shape.
- Most tax preparers have software for all states.
- Yes, you can download California and Colorado tax forms from the internet and then fill them out and mail them to the proper address. If you lived in California for part of the year and Colorado part of the year, you may need to file part-year resident forms; one for each state in addition to a single federal return. Any competent tax preparer should be able to help you out. Check your local yellow pages.
