Which is better a resume or a curriculum vitae?

It is going to be the first time that I am going to apply for a computer designer position, can you tell me what should I write a resume or a curriculum vitae? Thanks

  1. Resume and Curriculum Vitae (CV) are similar.
  2. Honestly a curriculam vitae or C.V. will stand out a lot more. It shows that you have confidence and want to build up credentials while at that firm. Definitely check with some other people who are in your industry and get their advice also.
  3. Same thing in theory but for a bussiness type job I would go with a CV other then a resume. The lay out looks more professional.
  4. It's the same thing, the names are used interchangeably: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C3%A9sum%C3%A9
  5. I think that CVs are more inclusive and gives you a chance to show off any internships, experience during school, etc that resumes tend to leave out. So I vote CV. Good luck!!!
  6. To my understanding, in the US at least, a cirriculum vitae is used primarily in academic settings or higher level executive or private sector jobs, where the focus of your job skills is based on what articles/books/speeches you have written or what research you have done, what patents you have applied for/received, etc, and not necessarily where you have worked, your general skill set, etc.... A resume is the common form, and it IS different than a C.V. If you are looking for a job in the United States, a resume and a cover letter is what you will need to present in most situations. In my experience, the more compact, but meaningful the resume is, and the more succinct the cover letter, the more chance you will get a call back. You should talk to someone like a career counselor, or (if still in university) someone from your univerisity's job placement center. If you are in the UK, I have heard they call resumes "C.V.s" but that this is different than how they use the phrase in the US. Good luck. -IR
