Any EMT's or Paramedics that can answer this?

I was a supervisor of a search and rescue unit in the Coast Guard, I grew up in Argentina and speak fluent spanish, just got my Associate's Degree and now I'm about to get my certificate for EMT-I....do you think I'll have a hard time landing a job wherever I want in Georgia? looking around Gainesville Also- I start EMT-I classes this September...anything I can start studying or any advice?

  1. I'm not sure of the laws in Georgia, but I would skip the EMT-I and go straight to paramedic. Most full-time fire departments want paramedics with fire fighting experience. If you work for a private service in the bigger cities they usually want paramedics or EMT-Basic. It all depends on what the city allows EMT-I to do in the field. Because the pay is rather low for paramedics, EMT-I, or EMT-Basic and you want to work in medicine for a career, I decided to get the associate RN degree and take the "bridge" course to paramedic. That way you get paid good money as an RN and you can give the cardiac meds and narcotics in the field as a paramedic without an order from medical control. Good luck
  2. you will have to take the state test o be certified in a state, some states od not roll over... contact the local state ems to find out what you need and what they require...
  3. Like EMT 1033 said, skip EMT-I and go on for your medic. It'll look better on a resume, and put you ahead of everyone else.
