Does anyone know where to search for jobs when you have a bad background?

My husband has a pretty bad background; mostly misdemeanors-1 felony-no drug charges. How can he get a job if no one is willing to give him a chance? *I know 'he should have thought about that'--but what do you do when you're trying to change for the better and start a new life? Help us please.

2. Probably some place low to start off with - Fast food or something, He can work there for a year or two and prove himself (i.e. be on time, do the job well, maybe advance in a position, NO PROBLEMS) and that way he can get a good reference from them and later try for something better.
3. construction, lawn care, maybe he can try to make his own business- does he have any talents
