What are your CV (Curriculum Vitae) do's and dont's?

Hi. Its time to rewrite my CV. What kind of thing do you include in your CV? What would you definitely miss out? How do you structure it? And if your job is to read CV's, what stands out and what puts you off?

  1. don't lie be honest on it
  2. If you are young keep it to one sheet. If you are older and have a longer work history, don't go beyond two sheets. Check for spelling mistakes and be honest about yourself.
  3. You need to list EVERY exam you have done AND the grades (no matter how bad). EVERY job you have had since leaving school/college MUST be listed, as you will be asked to explain every gap. Try to stick to 2 pages - some employers stop reading at the bottom of page 2. Anything less than 2 pages will make you look stupid and not worth employing. A CV with an aim or objective on it goes straight in the rubbish bin - I have seen a lot of employers do this, and it does NOT matter how well qualified or experienced the person is.
  4. Most importantly your CV should be 2 pages long. If too long no one will read it. Your CV should include your personal details, only relevant work experience, education history and qualifications (diplomas, certification and courses), reference. Do not put job experience that is not relevant, If you had many jobs make it brief and explain in one sentence what were you doing there. It is vital that your CV is clear, spacious and written in academic English. After that you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck
