What's the difference between a resume vs. a curriculum vitae?

1. About $60,000 a year. Seriously, a CV is used mainly by academicians. A resume is used by us mere mortals
2. The only time I've really seen CVs used was in the case of doctors. So I'm going to venture here that the first person to answer has it generally right.
