What's the difference between a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and a resume?
Help? I need these for college applications, but do I need all three? Or one? If so, which one?

- What you need depends on where you want to apply. However, you should consider to write both a resume and a cover letter. Resume - Here you will explain briefly, in one or two sheets, where and what you have studied, and the jobs you have had. People applying for most jobs in companies need this. Curriculum Vitae - Here is where you would write everything you have done. This is good for people applying for research and academic positions, because they would write their whole list of publications, for example. Cover Letter - This is a letter to the people that would read your application. In many cases, just by reading this one sheet of paper they will decide if they should continue reading what you submitted, or send every thing to the trash bin. Do some reading in the web. There is a lot of helpful resources. I would also recommend you to get a good book on this subject. Getting a pro to help you to write these documents can be an option, but I would make it the last one.
- A CV is often essential when applying for a college or academic position - these can be as long as you need them to and should highlight your experience. A resume is used more for job applications - they often are not useful in an academic setting. A cover letter is essential, there are a lot of excellent resources out there - look around and have someone proof read it for you. Good luck!
