Technically it is discrimination but what can you do? You can't file personal grievance as no one else will hire you. I find all companies want people who are married with kids in their management jobs as they find them more stable. I find that pretty incredible when you consider that most men who visit prostitutes are married men! And most men that visit domanatrixes are high powered professionals who work in management, especially at executive level! Yet they are all considered more stable than a single person, despite the fact that some of them have terrible marriages & only stay in them to make things look good for themselves professionally, etc. I've found it's really in the last 3 years that I've been hassled about it so I'm thinking there's a change in the Human Resources industry towards single people, or perhaps it's just that I'm now in my late 30's & maybe that's the age that people get hassled about still being single. It's no coincidence as it's happened to me at 3 different companies now. One of them I'd been working in for 9 years & during my last year I got so many rude comments about my single status that I had had enough & I quit, only to find the next company did the same thing as they didn't like single managers either (they were very suspicious about what I did in my spare time - even though there was no reason to be). So I quit that job after a year & guess what? Same thing with the third job! Got hassled again. It's like they're trying to make me feel uncomfortable in the hope that I'll quit as they really don't like single people in this place. ALL their staff are married with kids, including people who are only in their early 20's so it's very obvious to me that they have purposely selected married people. I dodged the question in the interview when they asked me about my partner as I thought it was inappropriate & knew they wouldn't hire me if they found out I was single. But because of my age I think they assumed I would be married or in a long term defacto relationship. The workplace sucks these days. I'm trying to come up with a way of being self employed as I've had enough. There's nothing wrong with me or my single status & if they can't accept me as I am then they can go to hell. Er, Lamont, is this one of those things where if I click on the link & register then you get $$ from my having clicked on it? I think it is.
