I am an EMT. Can i get a job as an emergency room tech?

I am an EMT in CA. I want to be a emergency room tech. I found listings for jobs in other states that i meet the qualifications, but when i search CA i cant find any jobs. Do they call it something different?

  1. I don't know. California has pretty strict licensing rules for medical technician. Why not call a hospital human resource manager?
  2. My girlfriend is an EMT and runs rescue. She also is an emergency tech in the ER. I live in Virginia and that is what they call it here. Here is the job description from the Ca. labor market: http://www.calmis.cahwnet.gov/file/occguide/PARAMED.HTM Maybe where you should look is under "medical assistant"
  3. go online to the hospitals' websites and apply for the jobs.
  4. AT Torrance Memorial the EMTs are called ER Techs. NOt all hospitals use them. You would have to look at each individual hospital probably. There may not be too many openings, which is why you do not see any.
  5. They still call the job as EMT though California has strict qualifications and may require you to complete additional training and certificates for you to be employed. You can get these training at private schools or community colleges.
