I am planning on joining the Navy, I have a question concerning jobs and MEPS?
I am planning on joining. I have a few select jobs that I am interested in. By the time you select your job at MEPS have you officially joined. Like if there is nothing at all avaliable that I want job wise, are you obligated by that time. I know now some old timer is gonna come on here and be like "the navy is about what you want, its about serving". yah that might be true, but I think its important to be happy with what you are doing and getting out of it as well. Thanks.

- They will show you the contract and tell you what job you are picking. If its not what you want, you are in no obligation to sign. Its your choice up until you sign the papers. Dont sign anything unless you are 100% sure of what it is. Read everything. I dont know if there are any cool navy schools you want, but when I signed on for the army I said I would only sign on if they got me air assault school, and i didnt sign until it was in my contract. So, you can bargain with them for what you need- they will do what they can because they need to meet their quota.
- They can't force you to sign up, it's your choice
- I would say have an open mind, if your set on one job and one job only it may not happen. You didn't say what type of job you are looking for nor may you be qualified for it. Take your ASVAB test and have the recruiter see what your qualified for, then decide. I'm a recruiter in Cleveland Ohio and when people are "job locked" i make a call to MEPS to see if it is open.
