Hard to Find a job with an economics degree?

Im a student at Virginia Tech, and I want to transfer into the Accounting program, but it is restricted, and only select students are alllowed in. I was going to go into economics if I dont get in. My dad, who has worked in sales for over 20 years, says that an economics degree is too general and it is very difficult to find a job. Is this true?

1. i got an econ degree and have had some amazing jobs since i graduated. i really dont think employers care what you major in provided you do well in it.
