Do I have to have my own web domain to publish a website of my curricular vita and so on?

If so, are there specific host sites that are better than others? I do not want any commercials to appear of pop-ups

  1. yes you do..have a look around beause some offer free hosting without ads...use you internet search to help you find some
  2. no, you could simply have a website at your ip address. It does not look good, however, to hand out a business card with http://123.456.789.100 on it. Seriously: domains.yahoo.com
  3. Try this: http://wordpress.com it's a blog engine but you can putting custom pages as well. No ads at all
  4. check out www.godaddy.com - - you can also buy a website name for less than $8/year. Their prices are really great. No popups either.
  5. Seems like you do need to pay to get an ad-free domain. Another thing that you could consider is seeing if your current Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers web hosting. For instance, with my ISP I pay an additional $6 per month to get web space. There are no ads. The only drawback is the domain name - my site name is tagged onto the end of their domain name. But, I don't think that's any big deal and I find it easy and cost effective.
  6. Commercials and pop-ups are what pays for "free" web hosting. It's quite unlikely you'll find free hosting that doesn't involve one or the other, if not both. You can buy hosting relatively inexpensively these days - do a Google search for "cheap web hosting" to find companies that provide such hosting.
  7. If you are a true novice and don't want to spend much time learning how to make a site, I would suggest the current super-popular MySpace. You can quickly get your information up for all your friends to see. If you are interested in something more, but still fairly simple try GeoCities or Yahoo. If you are willing to learn HTML I would suggest ATSPACE.COM. You can create a website for FREE up to 50MBs in size. I have two websites through them and the uptime is great. NO ADS, NO BANNERS. You'll need an ftp program to upload your stuff. There's a good free one for personal use called "FTP Explorer". Of course you'll either need to learn HTML or use one of the WYSIWYG programs like FrontPage or DreamWeaver to actually design your site. e-mail me if you need some help... If you want your own domain and have it hosted, I suggest ReadyHosting. You get 1GB of space unlimted e-mail accounts, FTP access and domain name registration all for $99 a year. Web hosting site (FREE): http://www.atspace.com Web hosting site (COST): http://www.readyhosting.com FTP Explorer site: http://www.ftpx.com A couple of my websites: Pioneer Baseball Website (ReadyHosting - Cost) http://www.pioneerbaseball.org My Son's Travel Team's Website (ATSpace.com - FREE) http://tricountytitans.atspace Family Website (ATSpace.com - FREE) http://tim8w.atspace.com
