is it alright to make a privacy hedge with arbor vitae in a damp spot ?

I would like to plant more mature size arbor vitae the type that are compact, not the big spreading variety because the area is not so wide. however the narrow strip of lawn is just where the rain spout empties between the drive and the patio.

  1. They don't like "wet feet". They will surely die over time. However, you may be able to plant them about 4" -6" high out of the original soil level and throw some mulch around the root ball. Try to extend your rain spout past your planting area, if possible.
