Have you ever camped in the West (Utah, Colorado, California)? If so, what was it like?

And what would be the number one piece of advice you'd pass onto someone else?

  1. I have camped and backpacked in all three states. You really cant generalize all of them. Depends on where in the state, what time of year etc. All of the states have some very beautiful scenery and wonderful national parks. California is probably more likely to be more crowded - esp. in Yosemite. BUt if you go to LAssen or Kings Canyon/Sequoia then you wont have as many people to compete with. Utah has Bryce Canyon and Zion which both kick ass. The Moab area has lots to offer as well. Colorado has Rocky Mtn NAtl park and all sorts of nat'l forest land. Good luck.
  2. I've camped in all those and other west states and I love it! If your going to one of those three states I'd suggest Utah cause I've gone there the most and there are great site seeing and great camping. If you've already been there many times Id go to Colorado cause its very pretty especially by Colorado Springs.
  3. I also have camped in all those states and extensively in California. I have been to every national park in California except one and many state parks. I guess if I had to choose, I would pick Colorado as I have not seen a lot of Colorado, especially the wilderness area's. Utah is beautiful, but a lot of red rocks and such. I prefer lots of trees, ferns and lushness. My best advice would be to pick one or two spots, then spend 3 or 4 days at each spot. Also be prepared for weather changes.
