Have any suggestions on how to bring my Dachsund from California to Colorado?

without me having to travel with him?

1. You can call an airline and see if they will let him fly in a crate, if someone is there to pick him up when the plane lands? not sure, but worth a try?
2. any family coming visiting? ask them to bring him along. or try Delta airlines.
3. Some airline carriers will allow a dog as carry-on. Otherwise, an airline will only ship cargo which sure isn't the safest way to send one. . Or you could always just drive it.. I've taken my dogs on many road trips. It's really not that bad once you're about a half hour into the trip and they've calmed down a bit.
4. Why not with you?? Then why take him??
