I need a job - websites please?

I'm German and looking for a position as juniour accountant or foreign language secretary (German and Russian) in the UK. I need help with the following: 1. job searching strategies - how do I find a company with an open position? The listings I get online through the German equivalent of the DWP are months old and practically useless. I never get any positive replies, only "sorry, we are not looking at the moment". 2. Would it be possible to secure an interview while still in Germany or do I need to fly over and hand in my CV in person in order to have a decent chance? 3. Online resources please? Job search engines? Job search engines specific to Manchester, Exeter, Glasgow or any bigger city away from London ? Thank you very much in advance.

  1. I worked in London, but from my experience the ONLY way to get things done on the Workfront in the UK is to go through an agency. I was registered with ROC recruitment, Gordon Yates and Officeteam. The agencies have a database of vacancies from their clients, and so the best they can to match individual candidates (you) to vacancies in their clients businesses. Some of the bigger agencies may even have offices in a city close to you, so that you can register with them while still in Germany. Also it is worth noting that if you do have to fly to the UK to go to a job interview, try searching for your flight on www.skyscanner.net it is a search engine for all european budget airlines, and allows you to search a whole month to find the cheapest dates to fly. I found it to be an excellent search engine, and you may be able to get a return trip for less than 40 euros (an investment well worth it if you can get the job, or get your agencies to schedule multiple interviews during your visits). Another thing to note - Recruitment agents will try to discourage you from registering with other agencies. While it is not helpful to be registered with 10 agencies, be sure to register with more than one, you want to be maximising your available jobs, not being constrained by the vacancies of clients to that one agency. I hope that helps. I think Recuitment agents are definately the best way to go in the UK. Bets of luck in your job hunt!
