i think i have obsessive compulsive disorder. ????
In the past two years, i've had 3 jobs. 2 of which only lasted 3 months apiece. I am constantly searching job listings for another job. I lost the 2 after 3 months because of my anxiety. my most current job, i've had for over a year but, continue to search for other jobs daily. I go on interviews before and after work and then inevitably turn them down. The truth is, the job I have isn't great and raises have been cancelled along with our Christmas party this year. I have been offered a new job doing pretty much the same thing for more pay but I am afraid of the change. Deep down I know that even if I take this job, I will continue to pour over the want ads the next day. I can't stop looking. I have a deep seeded fear that I will lose a job after a few months and have to keep looking, even though I know I have a job and have kept it for 15 months now. What kind of medication is there for OCD? is topamax used for OCD?

- Wait, You Didn't Tell Us Why You Thought You Had OCD, I Have OCD And Bipolar 1 And I Take Prozac And Lithium. I Used To Take Paxil CR For A Few Months But It Didn't Work Out Well.
- I don't think it sounds like OCD. I think, to a certain degree, looking at the Wanted Ads, and "keeping your options open" is a totally normal thing. I do think you're not satisfied with your work situation, and you wouldn't look so much if you were. Maybe you need to concentrate on finding something that will truly fulfill you. Otherwise, if you want an internet diagnosis from a totally non-qualified person, I would say that your flightiness is more along the lines of Bi-Polar Disorder (Manic-Depressive) than OCD. Good luck!
- Do you think your the only one that isn't sure what they want to do in life? You obviously have not found the right one because if you did you would be much happier.. Maybe you need more training? Everyone gets anxiety when there is a change coming, especially a new job, that is normal. Don't take those drugs you don't want to be dependent on that stuff, it just numbs you to everything and do you really want that sort of existence?
- you do not have to take medication or you do not have ocd.. i think you just never liked your jobs to much.. what you need is a change try other jobs until you find one you like and can stick with.. its also a faze you are going through .lots of people go through it.. don't listen to people and be hard on your self ..good luck
- Sounds like good old anxiety to me, mixed with some depression. Topomax is worthless (doctors call it dopomax.) Go see your doctor and get evaluated to rule out any physical problem, such as thyroid problems. Then get a referral to a good therapist and also check into using an antidepressant.... they help with anxiety just as they work for depression.
- You should talk to a doctor or counsellor, but from what you're describing, I don't think you have OCD. If anything, it is very mild and most likely temporary. Individuals with OCD experience obsessive symptoms that are so extreme that they affect every aspect of their lives. For example, they might check constantly to see that the stove is turned off or wash their laundry repeatedly. They are often obsessed with numbers, doing these tasks a certain number of odd or even times. For example, say someone with OCD is obsessed with turning on and off a light switch every time they enter a room. If they don't turn the lights on and off a certain number of times, they are convinced that something bad will happen to them, or that the reason something bad has happened is because they didn't follow their routine. Such behaviors can consume one's life beyond the point of normal functioning. I know you are anxious or stressed about your present job situation, but I do not think OCD is to blame. Perhaps you have anxiety or depression. As I said earlier, talking to a doctor would be your best bet. Good luck.
- I have OCD. There is a medication called Luvox for OCD but most any anti dep. medication can help. It's a long search to find the right med. or combination of meds to help. But sometimes you get the right ones right away. I don't know if you have OCD or not because it seems that your behavior is specific to job searches. OCD is something I deal with in all sorts of ways on a daily basis. If you have insurance see a psychiatrist and start on an anti dep. That could do the trick. Be sure to tell the Psych. that you have anxiety as well because some meds can make anxiety worse. You may also be put on an anti anxiety medication. My life is a whole lot better then it was eight years ago w/o medication.
- Save your money, since you arent able to keep jobs! The only medicine thats FDA approved, is Chlomipramine (anafranil) for the treatment of OCD. Most SSRI's (antidepressants) will work too. You could talk to a therapist, find one that has experience with OCD clients and maybe that person will know of a respectable psychiatrist that would help you..You havent been diagnosed with OCD, get some professional opinions.
