Any pharmacy technicians or pharmacists out there?
I'm currently taking my pre-reqs for pharmacy school, but I thought it might be a good idea to go ahead and do pharmacy tech. first. I'm only on my 1st year of pre-reqs and some of the classes that I've already taken are included in the pharmacy tech. curriculum. Is it a good idea to put a hold on pharm school and do tech and then while working continue on with pharmacy? Also, is there a good outlook for pharm tech jobs? I've been looking on monster.com and careerbuilder.com and there aren't that many job listings. 3 or 4 tops. Any information from pharmacists or pharmacy techs would be greatly appreciated! thanks! Oh yeah... Is there ususally a waiting list to get in pharmacy tech program?

- You don't find tech jobs on careerbuilder, monster, etc. You apply directly to the pharmacy or hospital. Pharm Tech courses are not pre-reqs for pharmacy. Many students do work as techs/interns part time during school.
- A couple of the pharmacists at the hospital I work for, started their careers as PTs and then went on to becoming pharmacists. Those are the ones that really REALLY appreciate how hard techs work (unlike the regular joe schmoe pharmacy school grad who takes a title to their heads) and they usually have a really good relationship with their tech staff. Those particular pharmacists know what we techs and iv techs go thru to prepare and dispense medications in a timley manner to particular department in the hospital. It all depends on you, your time and finances. I would go directly to pharmacy school, if you can afford it without working and want to graduate right away and find employment. The pharmacists that were once techs that I worked with had part-time jobs as techs while attending pharmacy school.
