How do you find out if job listings are legitimate or not?

I've been looking for jobs on Yahoo Hot Jobs and similar sites and I'm having trouble because I don't know much about these companies or ever heard of them. I started filling out information for one job and they started asking me questions like am i interested in buying car insurance and i started getting all this junk mail. Does anyone know of a website where I can search these companies?

1. You can google any company. If they're trying to sell you anything they're not legit. Try Indeed.com and Craigslist.org. They're the two best sites for job hunting today. Unfortunately most companies require you to fill out an online application these days and it's time consuming. Some will still allow an emailed resume.
