Anyone know a website to search my salary to see if its below average?
Hi all A while ago I read an article in a magazine on how the cost of living is just going up but salaries aren’t. They had a website address in there where you can add your job description and annual salary to see what everyone else is making in your area- but i stupidly didn't take it down. I think my salary is too low in relation to the job I do, so I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can check to see what I should be earning. Thanks in advance for any advice. XxX I earn 15k per year. I am supposed to earn comission on top of this but unfortunately this is also yearly due to my products being seasonal. I have a company car and phone too so i was told my salary would be lower than usual due to my "perks" but most sales jobs have these and they all earn atleast 25k a year

- Talk to your boss.
- how much do you earn? 24k is average i think
- The average salary in England and Wales is around 27-28k hope this helps
- Here's one...
- Salary information by type of employment and job title can be found at the U.S. Department of Labor website, for the Bureau of Labor Statistics = www.bls.gov. Then you find the heading for "Industries", then you go to "Occupations", then you find the sector in which you work i.e., Finance and Insurance, then you find your subsector, and you will eventually see the job titles and listings of the mean salaries, etc. Hope this helps!
- What will you achieve by doing this? If you find your salary is "too low" it'll make you cheesed off. You may then ask for a rise - I think I know what the answer to that will be. Then both you and your boss are cheesed off. Your boss may then start looking for someone else to do your job.
- A minimum wage structure,(UK) should be available from any government department.
- I don't know of a free benchmarking tool out there. Companies like IDS offer this service - but it costs, as to get accurate information is expensive. A few tips though!: Reed offer a salary checker: http://www.reed.co.uk/CareerTools/SalaryCalculator.aspx But this is not actually propper benchmarking as such - as it just takes the numbers off their database for advertised positions. So there can be a gap between what people actually earn and whats advertised. If its a graduate job http://www.prospects.ac.uk have some really good guides to jobs, including salaries accross different experience levels. Similar to what Reed is offering really - but just have a look in the places you would look for another job to see what people are offering. In sales this is always difficult, as their OTE can be wildly optomistic, but should give you an idea at least. --- EDIT --- Just to add my own few pence to this. A car is a fairly good perk! Obviously this depends on what car, for how long, and under what circumstances - but don't write it off as nothing. Sales is a skill which is in demand accross sectors and business cycles. Indeed, what is even more in demand is a proven sales track record and experience. You may well find that you could get a lot better money elsewhere due to your experience. I would have a look around to see if any other jobs would tempt you, and have a civil but sensible conversation with your boss about it. More along the lines of you need reassuring you are valued enough by your company, rather than threatening to leave (although if you are in sales you can sell this better than I can!) :)
- www.paywizard.co.uk You can even check celebs salarys on this website.
- 15k! your on 2 k more than my missus a trained university educated school teacher, well shes not now she works in clerical she doesnt want to teach anymore. i get 12 k a year as a skilled building site labourer. but then again we live in the north of ireland where the wages are a joke! the price of living here is greater than over in the UK. 8 quid for a blokes haircut, 7 quid for a single chinese takeaway car insurance is through the roof rent is disproportionate to the area, i pay 400 quid a month to live in a shi't hole excluding rates. local shops dig their arm in so far they can squeeze your liver. cops are on 27k a year but quite happy for 4 murdering car thieves to get 7 years each. if you think your being diddled ask for a raise. you alone know what your worth. i hope i dont seem nasty but 15 k a year would get me and the missus out of a really desperate situation and we both work our cheap polyester socks off, we cant afford cotton.
- Salaries vary depending on many factors. To find more accurate salary data you can try www.bls.gov, monster.com ,salary.com or PayScale.com. You will find that jobs like these are negotiable when it comes to salary.More information, tips and help at http://moreaboutsalary.blogspot.com/
- look for a new job, keep your old one but have a look at what you could earn if you changed job I reckon you are getting underpaid, I don't think i've ever heard of anyone who has a job which entails them to a company car yet earns only 15k. Businesses expect people to move jobs every 2 or so years the quickest way to earn more is to keep bettering yourself but moving to better paid jobs because of the experiance you have gained in the old one. Hope this helps, plus do loads of google searches for anyother info and look on job websites for you kind of role, with your skills and experiance and see what you could be earning. Don't that a figure from a website as fact or proof actually look at the jobs on offer at job websites e.g. jobs.co.uk, monster.co.uk and see what you are worth :)
- You received links to a few services the UK already, but if you are in the US there are a few others to try (listed below). I prefer the Indeed salary search tool at http://www.indeed.com/salary because it offers a "live" look at the salaries where the data is pulled directly from real job postings from across the web. You can search by job type AND location too.
