Looking for a (sneaky) way to find out salary range for a job prospect...?

It's something called a Financial Sevices Rep III at a large financial printer. Problem is when I do internet searches to guesstimate salaries the jobs I find are clearly not describing the same position as this one- same title, totally different responsibilities. Is it wrong to ask the prospective employer for the salary range? They want salary requirements along with resume and I don't want to blow it.

1. You need to take the job duties and figure out other terms for the title. There is no polite or sneaky way to ask an employer for information they obviously don't want to divulge. Lastly, you know what you need to take a job, so what the company is paying is not as important as what you need. I always told my clients to be specifically vague: If you know you want $45k or higher, you would say Salary Requirements: Mid to High 40s. Keep the following in mind: when stating a range, lets us the 43k to 48k. The employer will always make the offer around $43k and the applicant will always think he is worth around $48k. Be specifically vague
2. If you have a degree in finance and experience, why be shy about asking what you want? If you low ball by alot, you wont be happy with the job
3. you have also totally missed the area you work in. If you are in NY or california you need more money. other places less.
