I am wanting to relocate to find a better job, but jobs I search for do not specify pay?
You are not supposed to bring up the matter of pay at the interview, but the jobs I am applying for are out-of-state. I don't want to move to take a job and end up getting paid the same or less. People work to pay the bills. Why don't these job listings tell me how much I will be making? It stresses me out!! Do you think if these places call me, they will tell me how much the job pays before I get on a plane to go to an interview?

- Your best bet would be to make sure and find out what the pay is before going to the extra expense of flying there only to find out that it is not what you were looking to make. They should not have any problem telling you up front especially if you let them know your situation and what not. Good Luck in your search!
- There's a few reasons companies don't typically post salaries in their job ads. Sometimes, it's for fear of disgruntlement, or to hide it from their competitors. The reason you might be interested in though, is that companies have a salary range for a specific position, and the actual salary they offer within that range depends on an interviewer's knowledge and experience. For this reason, they like a full interview before discussing pay. It's true that you want to avoid pay discussions prior to or during an interview, but in your case, I see it being acceptable to inquire about the pay range they have assigned to the position. I'd word it clearly so they cannot assume you are trying to pin them down to a specific dollar amount. If they like you enough to interview you, they should let you know what it is. You'll have to assume you'll start near the bottom of the range (because you won't know where you'll fall), but at least you'll have some idea of whether or not you can afford to live on the salary. Good luck.
