Job search advice, please?

Hello. I have a Bachelor's Degree, and a fairly good work history (Sales Management in aerospace, and bookkeeping). In SEPT. 06. I quit my last position (this was in Northern California) to work on our house to prepare for selling it and relocating to Seattle. I looked for another job in California for several months, and nothing. We moved up here to Seattle five months ago. I have applied for roughly 120 jobs (seriously, that many, maybe more) of all kinds. I am open to anything. I've applied for dishwasher, store clerk, any clerical position, as well as jobs more in line with my education and experience. THREE interviews. That's it. I've had my resume professionally looked at, and it was deemed fine. My cover letters, ditto. I'm on 4 local Internet job sites, and registered with 7 temp agencies. NOTHING. Any advice? Should I just move somewhere else? Anyone know of any prejudice against Californians in Seattle? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you

  1. Yuh. I got a 4 year in SBS. Im in the same situation. Ive been unemployed for 4 months now? I think its just the economy. My plan is to take a 9 week CNA course in September. The pay ranges from 11-16 an hour. Its not much but its job security which is obviously important right now. Courses range from 25-400 dollars, not including books and scrubs. Oh, and Craigslist isnt much help if thats your source. I always ask "how many people have you interviewed" and its always an absurd amount. One person told my he had 80 applicants! If youre willing to use your own vehicle you might be able to get a courier position. Also, I just remembered. Schnieder has a program. They train and certify you to drive rigs for free so long you sign a 6-12 month contract with them. The trucking industry is always a safe bet
  2. You should try Craigslist.com employers post legit jobs on their take a look and maybe you'll find something.
  3. hmm try usajobs.gov... its where the government lists openings
  4. I understand. I had an interview at a retail store this week. They said we'll contact you 7-10 days. Obviously they will be sending me a letter in the mail. Saying No thank you. Today I got a phone call for interview for a retirement home. Just keep on making follow up calls. Good Luck.
  5. This is my situation and what worked for me. 12 yrs successful management experience. In my last position (sales manager) I increased yearly sales from $2.4 million to $14 million, staffing needs from 7 to 27, and clients from 330 to 2200. Let go from job March 2007. Applied online for a number of jobs. Not one phone call NO COLLEGE. Finished just short of my first 2 yrs of Bachelors degree in 1yr. More online applications. Received a couple non-exciting calls. No interviews yet. WENT OLD SCHOOL TURNED THE COMPUTER OFF Spent one week knocking on doors and making phone calls (sometimes multiple) to the places I had dropped resumes off at. (some places I would fill out the online application after I dropped off my resume) Over the next couple weeks I had 9 interviews and 3 job offers. I start on Monday. Good Luck!
