Navy Seals or Air Force Pararescue?
Hi all, I am trying to decide on Seals or PJ's. Firstly, I know the jobs are very different. PJ's are search and rescue and Seals do all kinds of missions, demo, counterterrorism, etc...From what I am reading it seems like Seals do mainly insertion via water, sub, SDV, zodiac. PJ's probably do more parachuting than seals and prefer to reach the target by air if possible? I hear the Air Force has a higher standard of living and more women, ;-) haha. PJ's probably do more mountaineering. The PJ pipeline is longer. SEALs have Hell week and are probably cold and miserable more often than PJ's. PJ's now only have Hell night. Both jobs are dangerous though I would suspect that since pj's are going to rescue someone often already in harms way, that their job could often be tougher. Does one group get to travel more than another? Much of this is speculation. Any input from people in the know would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading this long post! Chris Cool, just found this out: Effective 1 October 2006, the Navy has designated SEAL as its own rating. Therefore specific source ratings are no longer required to become a SEAL. In other words, new recruits can attend BUD/S without first attending an A-School in a specific rating. So basically you can get the Seal Challenge in your contract and be Guaranteed to try out!

- Chris, Good luck getting into either of these programs...the washout rate is very high. Here's a link that should answer some of your questions http://www.military.com/NewContent/0,13190,Smith_111303,00.html USAF Ret
- Who do the SEALS call when they are wounded and behind enemy lines? The PJs.
- well heres one main thing that i think you should consider. Seals is NOT a job that can be garenteed to you. It is an elite force of the Navy and you have to be selected for it. However pararescue can be garenteed to you by your contract, unless you fail out of tech school which is a real possibility since it has the highest washout rate at stated earlier. But as i said navy seals is in no way shape or form garenteed to you. but if you pass the initial test of pararescue then you can be "garenteed" that job.
- Who do the pjs call when they get caught and held capative, The SEALS lol... Hey you need to be a very good swimmer if you want to be a SEAL. You need to find out what your weaknesses and strengths are and then decide which job would emulate your strengths. I'm sure both are lots of fun but lots of hard work. SEAL program is hard and very few make it. I don't know much about the PJ's but I hear its pretty hard too. research and find out which one will bring out your strengths like I said above. Good Luck
- when seals are caught or hurt they call the pj's for rescue??? sorry folks not true....we do not get caught and if we get hurt we take care of our own and call for usn air extract...pj's to the rescue, thats funny
