Any advice- I want to join the navy- possibly SAR...?
So I have really been thinking about joining the Navy. I love to travel and I love a challenge. Everything is happening so fast- my recruiter is ready to take me to MEPS this week!! I'm a female but I really really want to be Search and Rescue- is this at all possible?! The last thing I want is to have a boring job. Any feedback on this or even life in the Navy is greatly appreciated!

- Well if you love to travel, the navy is a great way to see knew things. It may take a while to really get to experience the navy life, just because of the schooling and bootcamp. But once you are finally at your duty station I think you will enjoy it. I can't give much insight on SAR. You may just want to talk to the recruiter. Although sometimes they can only give you the good things about the job.. sometimes they leave out the bad stuff.
- Please ensure you get any promises "IN WRITING"...if they will not do so, there is no assurance you will get the rating (SAR) that you want...If it is not available, don't let them push you..tell them you wish to be contacted when the option is available.. WARNING: If you are not physically or otherwise capable of completing the training, you will be reassigned "to the needs of the Navy" (that's any job that they need filled). John USMC
- There is no specific job in the navy that deals with search and rescue. There are crews on carriers that are responsible for responding to downed pilots, but that may not happen that often. If you are really looking for a SAR career, you may want to look at joining the US Coast Guard. CG rates are similar to navy rates. One of the USCG's primary duties is to perform rescue operations. If you would like to command one of those cutters, you could attend the USCG Academy. http://www.uscg.mil/ USCG http://www.cga.edu/ USCG Academy Good luck!!!
