Does anyone have any info about moving to Virginia/North Carolina and finding teaching jobs?
My friend and I are 22 year old teachers. We currently live in Maine but would like to move to the Virginia or North Carolina area. We are certified to teach K-8 here. We are trying to find information on getting teaching jobs down there and also on places to live. ANY info would be great!! We are not sure where to start with this process!!! Thank you!!!

- Each certification process is different so you will need to check the state board of education for the state in which you decide to teach. NC's employment: http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/work4ncschools/employment/ VA's Department of Education: http://www.doe.virginia.gov/
- I have worked in both states. I think NC will accept your license and Wake County has lots of jobs and pay well. www.wcpss.net Jobs are posted twice per week.
- Just go to the state department of education web site. You will find info on certification and/or license. Follow that to apply for certification if you are not already certified in those states. Once you complete that process, you should then call the state department to see where the most likely areas to find a job would be in those states. Please be aware this time of year state departments are very busy approving certification for hundreds or thousand of teachers and may not field calls. If that is the case, the select cities or towns you would like to live, the go to that districts wed site and give them a call to determine your prospects. Good luck.
- Go to North Carolina's dept of education online and look for vacancies. You can even complete an online application that goes out to the counties of your district. Let me just add, though, that NC has a huge teacher shortage and there is a reason for it! The education system here is a joke. I moved here 3 years ago to teach and have learned a lot. I am trying to relocate within the state, but the places that need teachers are pretty crappy areas. Those that are decent don't need teachers. Be very careful.
