  1. Wrigleyville is expensive because it surrounds the baseball park. Lincoln Park is very expensive. It's a very wealthy neighborhood. We're talking million dollar townhomes. You may be able to find a nice apartment near the DePaul campus, or Uptown. They're a few miles from the lake. It's pretty over there. But it's expensive too, so you might have to consider getting a roomate. Welcome to Chi. You're going to love it. Been here all my life.
  2. You're going to be stretching it thin to live in Lincoln Park or Wrigleyville on that salary without a roommate. But, if you were to check out some of the Chicago suburbs real estate, I'm sure you'd find the home for you. Check out the site below and good luck!
  3. Earning $30 or $40K won't get you a place in lincoln park or wrigleyvile, unless you don't eat or buy clothes or use the internet or need to use the bus or anything. To live there comfortably you probably should be earning at least twice that. For the money you'll be making, you'd better start looking elsewhere and even then it won't be the swankiest of neighborhoods. You could try Buena Park which is close to Wrigleyville. there are a few cheap-but-decent apartments. You'll probably have to settle for a studio... those run about $600 or so a month. YOu might be able to find a place in the area I live, Edgewater. Lots of it is being converted into condos, but there are still a few cheap apartments left. And you might look at Rogers Park. It has a few problems but there are still some cheap places to live right near the lake. Don't worry about being close to downtown. The public transportation here is pretty good so no matter where you live you can get downtown easliy. In fact, the closer you are to downtown, the most expensive the living is. Just concentrate on finding somewhere decent but cheap to live. And always request more than you are willing to settle for. 30k is chump change in this town. Ask for at leat $50 to start and then you can start the negotiations. Why settle for 30k right off the bat?
  4. not really. there is always option to live in the city but not down town. i use to live in by midway and i would take the train Downtown and it took me 15 min to get in to the city.
  5. 30-40k? good luck finding a place anywhere in chicago let alone the chicago-land area. there is no way you could live comfertably buying something in lincoln park or wrigleyville. Lincoln Park is right on the lake it's a nice area.. and Wrigleyville is hellooo right next to Wrigley Field. since your a post-grad try buying a cheaper place with a few friends so you will be able to afford to
  6. If you want to live in that area and be in a safer area within that area as well you need at least 50K to live comfortably unless you find a bargain Apt.,get a roommate you trust or you can end up on the outskirts of that area which as of a few years ago isn't terrible, but isn't the safest area. This is yuppy area now and I haven't seen it in several years. You need to coax a friend to move with you for the best chance I think. It's hard to trust a stranger to live with and 30-40k isn't enough on your own. Goos luck!
