What are the exact step by step job titles reached before becoming a CEO or top executive?

What are the exact step by step job titles reached before becoming a CEO or top executive? I am an entry-level jobseeker with big but broad dreams. I still don't know what industry I want to go into & what I want to do, but --- I wanted to know the line of management or what exact positions did people go through job to job to finally reach their level. I want to know what positions to reach for to one day be a top executive. I am a huge fan of the youngest CEO of Gymboree, but his profile only broadly explains how he got to where he is. It is a very broad question & topic. Job examples & advices of how you got to where you are today would be great!

  1. there is not a set hierarchy. ------------------------------------------------- - shop floor - regional manager - corporate director - senior corporate director - vice president, report to coo
  2. There is more then one way to climb a mountain. Some people meander up the traverses and some attack the sheer rock face to make a quick, and quite possibly trecherous, asscent. Some people spend a lot of time in university and then get a helicopter ride to the last base camp.
  3. There are literally thousands of job titles out there. Many CEO's have a marketing, business development, Finance, or Accounting background - or best a combination of all of these. Every company has their own way but I have crated a brief list that may represent what many corporations look like... A loose hierarchy would look like this: Staff person 1 Staff person 2 Senior Staff person 2, etc. then Supervisor Asst. Manager Manager Senior Manager Associate Director Sr. Associate Director Director Sr. Director Executive Director Sr. Executive Director Vice President Sr. Vice President Sr. Executive Vice President President CEO Notice a lot of title inflation, a lot of chiefs and not too many indians. That's life. That's reality in the majority of companies.
