Why do Municipal Jobs take so long to make an offer?
I recently had two interviews at a State College in South Carolina. I know I had been selected pending a successful background check (which should be fine.) The woman who interviewed me told me it took her 2 months before she started! Its been 4 weeks so far for me. I also had a friend who has a Federal job in Boston and it took them 4 months!!! What do municipalities do differently whereas a private company often makes you an offer within two to three days?

- Many times it's due to an "advertised posting date" on the jobs, and they have to wait to be sure everyone interested has an opportunity to respond. Also, from personal experiences, the bureaucracy moves slowly, slowly....sometimes due to the "levels" of supervision that it must pass through for approval! The 'ol chain of command hierarchy!
- Mann is right
- Most government employment has a special protocol that it must follow, before it can finalize it offer. IE( The job must advertise a certain period in advance; several interviews must be held; the position's salary must be covered by the current operating budget)
