Cover Letters For Resumes Knowledge Base

Should I make multiple cover letters and Resumes? I'm looking for a summer internship, and willing to get an internship from an Investment bank, a CPA firm, or any consulting firm. I'm making a resume and cover letter now, and realized that one resume won't be able to be compatible with each different industry. In this case, should I make multiple resumes in each different industry? Lastly, for a cover letter, should I make a different cover letter each time I submit it to different employers?
Where on the Internet can I find templates for writing Cover Letters and Resumes?? I am looking to find samples/templates of resumes and cover letters so I have an idea on what mine should look like. I worked in skilled trades and would also like ideas for writing general cover letters and resumes as well, so if you know of anywhere on the net that I can find some samples/templates, it would be greatly appreciated... Thanks
Do I need to send multiple cover letters/resumes? If applying to several jobs within one organization, do I need to send an individual cover letter and resume for each position? Or should I list each position on one straight-forward cover letter? I'm pretty sure they will all go to the same person so it seems ridiculous to send more than one, but I want to follow a professional etiquette. The positions I'm applying for vary slightly, but require the same credentials.
Job Hunting Advice for Cover Letters and Resumes? Ok I just finished my BA in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and want to enter into accounting. Resumes and cover letters for jobs in UK- what to mention about work status & do they use different formats? Hi, I am a US citizen married to a British citizen. We are planning to move to the UK this fall as he will begin a PhD program in Scotland. I need to get a job and am starting to apply from the US. I assume I need to mention something about having legal permission to work since I'm married to a Brit (but can't actually get the form until I arrive there). We can't move unless I get a job first, though. What do I need to mention in my cover letter and resume. Are their resume and cover letter styles very different from the US?
What are some good sites to help with resumes and cover letters? I've been out of the workforce for about 5 years and now a job opportunity has come up and I need to update my resume and write a cover letter. I did a search under "resumes," and a lot of sites came up. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with these sites and can tell me which ones are actually worth looking at. Thanks for your help!
Any good at cover letters or resumes? I am applying for a position as a Financial Service Representative and I need some good tips to add to my resume or cover letter. Any help??
Why are companies wanting cover letters, resumes or both handwritten.? I am noticing that more and more often "Please send resume with handwritten cover letter..." Are they analyzing our handwriting? It is very nerve wracking to try to handwrite a cover letter. I saw an ad today asking for a handwritten resume. Whats up with this?
Another question about resumes and cover letters? Or more than one question, I should say.... I've noticed that there are frequently requests for resumes to be sent via e-mail. How does one do a cover letter in this case? Make it the body of the e-mail? Are the resume and references provided in the body of the e-mail or in an attachment? Should I send the references as a separate attachment or include it in the same one as the resume so that it just adds an extra page?
Is there a free website that offers sample resumes and cover letters? I don't want to pay for a resume-- just to get some ideas or suggestions on how to write one. I don't have a specific job title so I might go with a little generic in more cover letter. I haven't worked in 8 years (I stayed home with the kids) so this is new to me and a bit intimidating since there are so many qualified people out there looking for work. And having kids, I would like to work when they are in school.
Question about writing resumes and cover letters? I want to write a resume and a cover letter, but I am trying to make it VERY general so that it can work with virtually any position I apply for. I do not know exactly how to make the writing in the resume and cover letter broad so that it can be interesting to all the prospective employers, is this even possible? Does it look better to have a more specific resume and cover letter towards the job you are applying for?
I am applying for a job. Are there any good websites with tips on resumes and cover letters? I never know how to respond to the selection criteria, especially whe there are vagues things like 'Understands workplace safety issues', etc. How would you demonstrate things like this in a cover letter?

My resume desrcibes my success with running hotels - I have taken that off and added all my HR accomplishments and duties to get an HR job. In my cover letter should I explain that I am making a career change? (I haven't ever looked for a job in over ten years) Advise?
are cover letters for resumes really that important? the HR people that get the resumes probably got 150 for that one job, and i would think that a cover letter would just confuse things...
How does the submission of online applications, resumes, and cover letters work? I'm not quite sure that when I send my resume, or fill out an application that it goes directly to the company I'm applying for. Where do they go and who looks at these items. I am not getting any responses from anyone regarding the disposition or status of these submissions.
What do principals look for in resumes and cover letters? Hello! I will be applying for a educational job this summer and fall. The state I live in is very comtetitive. What can I do to stand out. Seeking help with Cover Letters and Resumes? Career Objective There are debates about this. Sometimes what you put in your Career Objective you can just throw in your cover letter and possibly make it smoother. And if you're applying for a sales, a sales isn't really a "career" its a "job". Any other insight on this? Skills Software skills and technical skills like different programs or problem solving, communication, multitask, researching stuff like that. I've seen software skills in resumes quite often but for those technical skills, I see it on cover letter and resume. In cover letter, people relate it to their job/job description. In resume, people just throw it in because its on the job description and when the employer reads the resume, all the "requirements" are there because the applicant copy/pasted it there... Qualifications Should I put these in resume or cover letter? Or a bit in cover letter but specific ones in resume. Point form or paragraph? I've seen both types for cover letters, any insights which would be preferred? Point form seems easier to read but its just paragraph but broken up with space in between... Address, Email and Phone Number Typical cover letters you place these at the beginning of the letter like a letter. But if you were to apply by email, the body of your email would be your cover letter. Would you still place the address, email and phone number at the top or place it at the end where you say "Regards, So and So" like typical emails. (The resume is attached). Greeting in Cover Letter What kind of greeting would you use? Hello would be unprofessional. Dear Hiring Manager? Dear _____ (name if you know?) "To Whom It May Concern" or what? I personally prefer the actual name if I know. Or the position of the person I am emailing to. To Whom It May Concern just doesn't suit me. Any insights on this matter? Attached Resume .doc, .docx or .pdf? I personally prefer pdf because you wouldn't have the cannot open error or less likely. Or should I just put it after the cover letter? Thank you for reading
PDF Cover Letters and Resumes as 1 or 2 documents? I have created a PDF cover letter and resume to submit to companies for a potential internship. When sending both is it better to lump the two together as one document with two pages or attach them as seperate documents in the same email?
Absolute BEST site for tips/tutorials on creating resumes and cover letters? I've created a resume, but it seems a bit on the dull side. Are there any resources out there on the web that can help me? Preferring the absolute best ones.
What type, weight, and color is best to use for Resumes and Cover Letters? I have heard white is the best color, but is that necessarily so? Also, not sure what weight is best, I have seen 20 lb to 32 lb paper. Are watermarks appropriate or distracting? And any recommendations on brand to use? I am a current job-seeker and have been to many websites explaining this, but they all seem to contradict each other! Please help! I forgot to put the word "paper" into the question, but hopefully y'all knew what I was talking about. The jobs I am applying for are professional office-type positions. I need to print my resume and cover letter on high-quality paper to send in by postal mail. Another issue - is it best to send in traditional long envelopes or the large folder-type with the clasp on it?
Summary vs Objective on Resumes and Cover Letters? I'm curious to hear from anybody in HR or who use to work in HR. What grabs your attention more. Somebody who uses a summary on their resumes or an objective on their resumes. And can a summary or an objective be used instead of a cover letter because someone told me that cover letters aren't really looked at with all the flood of job applications of people looking for work now. If that's true, should I write a Cover Letter for every job? or only when they ask?
is it okay to change margins for cover letters and resumes? to fit one page? if you copy and paste into an app tho, won't it come out to more than one page? and for attaching, if one uses a different version of word, same thing? /=
Cover Letters? Do those companies that write cover letters for people (for a fee) work? Can a prospective employer tell if one was written by the applicant or one of those places? i ask because while I have a knack for composing one heck of a resume, cover letters - not so much. I have all the qualifications but I don't even get a call back. I've had two friends - both managers - read my cover letter and they say that it is fine, but I have gotten no bites and I'm thinking maybe it's the letter. Some people are just not good at composing cover letters. I have primarily used employment agencies for that very reason. Thanks in advance!
Anyone know a good site for creative designs (pertaining to resumes and cover letters) ? I don't know what a creative design really is when people place it in a resume and their cover letter. Can some1 explain to me or at least give me sites to help me out???
Writing Resumes and Cover Letters? In school Im going to have to make a portfolio, and write our own resume, cover letters, etc. What is the best software or program for doing this?
Calling potential employers after submitting resumes/cover letters? Based on my past experiences, I haven't really haven't needed to call employers for interviews. Either they call or email, and usually I hear one way or the other. I've had a few that don't respond, some of which are "no calls, emails or faxes" type, but is it worth it to follow-up? I realize hiring people are busy, but is it any indication of someone's chances when they have to call? Do hiring managers appreciate go-getters at all or do they prefer the control in who to call or not?
Another question for hiring supervisors - Cover letters and resumes? Hiring supervisors, there are people out there who want to break into certain fields but either have a poor work history that they have improved, or just don't have a lot of experience (how do you get experience if you don't get a chance). So, for those of us who would like to return to a particular field or who would like to break into a new field, how do we get your attention so that we can be considered for a position. Especially when you have a lot of more experienced applicants?
are cover letters necessary for resumes? I am applying to grad school. I had to hand in transcripts, a goal statement, a resume, an application (with fee), and my PRAXIS scores. I submitted everything electronically. I have never had to write a cover letter. I applied to this school for my undergrad and got in without a cover letter, but of course I am obsessing a bit, because that is the one thing I did not do. Do you think this is really bad? I thought that since I had a goal statement and everything was together electronically that I might be okay. Thanks.
Need a quick answer about resumes/cover letters!? I am applying for a job that has you attach your resume (apply online), but it says nothing about the cover letter--is this implied? This will be my first "real" job where I actually had to submit a resume, so I'm not sure what to do here. It's also one of those things where you upload your resume, but can apply for like 5 different jobs...so I can't really mention just one in the cover letter, you know? I'd appreciate some help! Thanks! It's a job at the hospital--I'm actually applying for a few jobs there (they've got a lot of openings).
Would you be interested in a "How to" Guide Book on everything you need to know about resumes, cover letters..? I have an all inclusive Resume Guide Book I wrote and I want to offer it on my website for sale as an e-book and thinking about getting it published as a hard copy. It includes all types of resumes and the differences between them, action verbs to help write these resumes, cover letter/reference page/acceptance letters, etc/..... info, Interview do's and dont's, how to deal with certain questions in the interview, etc...... It is a very easy to follow guide that will help anyone. One will learn skills they can use for a lifetime and in my opinion, everyone needs to know this info. Now, I am not trying to rip anyone off either, because I know times are tough and there are already enough expensive things in the world. I was thinking I would sell this guide book for $9.99. So, my question is, would this be something you would be interested in buying? If so, do you have any suggestions as to what you may like to see in the book as well as what I already spoke of? (I will also offer help in any writing needed to anyone that is trying to write it themselves for a SMALL fee) Thanks to all suggestions.
resumes & cover letters...? I am trying to get a job in the health-care field, in my area of specialty. (OK, in 1 of my specialties!) I have the degree and the training... THE QUESTIONS ARE: How far back do you go on a resume? i.e. 5 yrs? What about a cover letter? Is this important? Is it OK to send a follow up letter after 2-3 days from submitting your application and/or resume? I want to be aggressive, I want them to know that I am serious about working for them and I want to do a great job for them. any advice would be great! PLEASE
i want some sample cover letters and resumes for teaching jobs.? where can i find them.any idea of websites. thanx.
Would it be better to send resumes/cover letters through job sites or to actually contact the company? Before answering read my questions down below: Would i have a better chance of getting a call back if i contacted the company and asked for a specific email and contact name to address my letter to? Or should i just copy and paste my cover letter into the designated space on the job site and attach the resume. I found a job through indeed and through career builder i just supply my email and name and the two articles of paper asked of me. It says it will automatically send it to the employer..can i trust this? Anyhow, i don't know the name of the employer so i was thinking about contacting the company/agency. What are your thoughts? @BioLiz: Thanks, I did call the company and they did give me the name of the person in charge of human resources so i guess that's an OK to directly email them? Or should i still go through the job site? I contacted human resources with some questions and also to give them a heads up before just sending my cover letter and resume. The secretary said it would be ok to contact them so i went for it without immediately diving in. Was that a smart move?
How can i change my cover letter (resumes)? How can i change my cover letter (resumes)? i typed up a cover letter, but when i read it out, i see that i have too many 'i' and 'i have' 'i am' what can i do to replace them. thanks for any answers
Resumes and cover letters? I'm looking to get my first job soon. I was planning on applying in a bunch of places. Do I need to modify my resume for each place? And do I have to write a cover letter for each?
Do recruiters forward cover letters along with resumes to their clients? Since the economy is dead in Michigan, I have been searching for jobs out of state. Most of the jobs I apply for are through recruiters and I note that I am willing to relocate in the cover letter but I never get calls on jobs that I are idenical to what I used to do. I am just wondering if the people who get my resume think I am not willing to relocate at my own expense because they don't get the cover letters. About 6 years ago I used a recruiter to find an employee and I can't remember if I also saw cover letters too.
Is it really ok to send resumes and cover letters via online? I was always told to use professional resume paper for use in printing off my cover letters and resumes, but now when I'm looking for jobs these days, it just doesn't seem realistic to mail everything anymore. Everything is digital now, and that's fine, but how does that reflect on the professionalism of application materials? To me, it just doesn't seem hardly ok to send a resume or cover letter online via sites like careerbuilder or monster when the formatting of these materials is completely disorganized when you cut and paste the whole thing.
How big of a factor do cover letters play anymore? It's been 6 years since I've checked out the open job market and have had 3 jobs over the past 11 years. It seems as the years go by, the resume submitting process has become more and more casual. When I first started applying for jobs, it would be a typed cover letter and resume that was sent via mail. Now a day, people submit resumes online, though various job sites, etc. My question is, how big of a factor does a cover letter play in this day and age? It seems like everyone wants things to be straight and to the point and don't want to be bogged down with extra information/data to go though. However, in the past I know a cover letter could be used as an extra tool to sell yourself. Is the cover letter still an important tool to use? As you build up more and more experience over the years, is it necessary to have?
Cover letters for resumes? What's the point of cover letters? How do I make one? Who do I title it to? Do I need to make a new one every time I apply somewhere different? How long does it need to be? Do you have any websites of sample cover letters?
Increasing My Chances of Getting Hired - Cover Letters and Resumes? Hi, I was recently on a job hunt that I found to be quite unsuccessful. I only need a job to help pay for school fees throughout the year (nothing big or business). However, since it is the end of summer, it looks like no places are hiring. I was wondering how cover letters and resumes might help me, and if so, how do they work? Do I attach them all together with my application and hand them in, or do I mail them? Also, are there certain jobs that don't accept them? And would they even be necessary/appropriate for the jobs I am applying for (coffee shop worker, retailer)? Of course, any other additional information pertaining to increasing my chances of getting hired will be greatly appreciated. Also, I am currently sixteen years old and I've had one other job as past experience.
Should I include two fax cover sheets and cover letters if I am sending 2 different resumes to the same place? An employer is requesting that applicants only fax their resumes and there are two positions I am qualified for. Should I send two fax cover sheets and two cover letters or would One be enough??? Any help would be great!!!
Tips for Resumes and Cover letters? I'm 15, I have no work experience but I am interested in applying at a few places (such as.. the Hoyts Cinema) but the application form requests me to include a resume and cover letter. How important are cover letters for job searchers? I want an honest answer. Maybe from someone who gets resumes from potential candidates in HR. Are cover letters really that important to getting a call back from a potential employer? I've sent at least 30 resumes and cover letters off in the past month with ZERO success. My problem is, is that they take WAY too long to write, and I just end up sounding like a kiss-a$$ by saying how great the company is, and how I would love to work there,...yada yada yada.... Monster has this thing where you can apply for jobs with one click, and I wanna do it, but I don't wanna keep changing the stupid cover letter around. I'm thinking about just not including one at all (which is an option). So my question is, honestly, do people in HR actually read cover letters? Or do they just go right to the resume and qualifications of the candidate? Please help, I'm getting fed up job searching. I mean , if I'm applying for a job at your company, wouldn't that alone just make it seem like I wanna work there? Or not?
Resumes and Cover Letters? My resume is one big jumbled mess! I've used Yahoo's resume formats and it still looks like crap! I want to get into the media field, but I've only held customer service jobs. How do I get my resume to look more like I have skills for the media field? When I write my cover letter, how do I actually word it? How do I make it seem like this is my dream job? I've written cover letters but I've never really liked the way they turned out. So, what are the real basics for writing one?
My sister plagairized my job applications, cover letters, and resumes...should I rip them up? I came home from work and saw some papers on the table that looked like letters to employers, so I glanced at them and noticed that it was one of my cover letters I wrote when I was looking for a job a few months ago, except my sister signed her name at the end. She did the same thing with my resume. She takes my clothes, lies and just takes me for granted all the time and it makes me soo angry. If she asked, then it would be a different story..but she just took the easy way out and printed off my work. I spent hours perfecting all the documents..and then she just uses it. This is her first time applying for jobs, and I think she needs to do the work herself. I searched on the computer for jobs ads and sent her 20 links to check out..she never thanked me or anything either. I really just want to rip the papers up..
Do hospitals look for cover letters? I once obtained a position at a hospital without a cover letter and received a call back from a hospital about a job that I did not take. One job was clerical support the other job was nursing assistant. I would like to know if hopsitals look for resume cover letters for manager roles? Especially when applying for like 6 jobs at at time. Thats a lot of cover letters. Please help. Any advice on what they expect?
How many reference letters should I include with an electronic resume and cover letter? I am contacting a company that I have worked with in the past to see about observing them and gaining some hands-on experience; basically an unpaid internship. I am including a full resume and cover letter, but I didn't know how many reference letters to add. I have one from a manager and one from another coworker. Should I include a third from another manager? Why or why not? How many would you look for?

Resume cover letter: Expressing your reasons for interest in position - what do I write? Applying for position an office position - Job description says "submit resume with cover letter expressing reasons for interest in this position" What should I say to make it sound really good? I really need a job and have the experience for it. I've been sending out numerous resumes with no responses and have been trying to change my resume/letters wording to look better. I know I'm not supposed to reword my resume in the cover letter but what do I write without doing that?
Website For Reviewing Resumes or Cover Letters? Hey everyone, Is there anywhere on the web where you can post your resume and/or cover letter and have it reviewed for free? If not, I'm having trouble finding a steady, reliable source for resume and cover letter information. I get mixed answers that lead to my confusion. I feel like that I'm not getting interviews mainly because of how my resume looks or the language used. By the way, I'm going to be a 3rd year University student and I'm mainly looking for a quality summer job until I can work for the school again during the fall and winter.
Advice for resumes and cover letters for job fairs? At the moment, I'm in the process of both trying to apply for a job, and also trying my odds at a job fair coming up next week. This would be the first time I've ever put together a resume for a job (and the first time since high school projects that I even touched upon the subject of a resume), so I think I could really use a few pointers. Considering the resume will be submitted to (hopefully) many potential employers, should I really go for a specific Objective on the form? And besides skills, work experience, and education, what sorts of areas look appealing to employers? (If it helps, I'm using Microsoft Word's resume templates for this.) Would things like hobbies and extracurricular activities really make a difference to employers? And I suppose finally, should I even worry about a cover letter, considering the variety of employers that will be represented at this job fair? Any and all help will be appreciated!
Can you write a "generic" cover letter for resumes when applying for several jobs? I'm applying for several jobs, some are career(ish) oriented and some are not so much...can I just write one really good generic cover letter that explains my qualifications more in depth to give them all instead of writing specific ones for each place?
What if you are applying for TWO positions at the same company, should you send them 2 cover letters? I'm actively looking for a job and have put a lot of work into my Cover letter/Resume and because of that I really don’t want to start a new one. The two jobs am going for are both at a medical office, so the qualifications are similar. What should I do?

cover letters & resumes: should they be included in the body an e-mail or sent as an attachment, or both? In today's job search, it's pretty standard to send cover letters and resumes electronically. Some people that a short email should be sent with a cover letter and resume added as attachments. Others believe that the cover letter and even the resume should be included as text in the email. Some suggest doing both. What do hiring managers and human resources as a whole prefer? Not receiving e-mails with attachments, or being able to simply click, open, and print the attachments?
When sending out resumes/cover letters what size envelope should I use? What size envelope should I use? Legal? Letter? Other?
Do hiring managers expect more from cover letters or resumes? Sorry if this question didn't make much sense... lol, but I was wondering if Hiring Managers look more towards the cover letter as being important, or the resume, because I heard from one hiring manager that they really care less about the cover letters and sometimes even skip over it just to get to the resume.

I thought about sending resumes and cover letters to various companies outside of my town and state of VA....? Outside of my state of Virginia, because I still can't find work in my economically depressed town, I have a college certificate and I'm ready something better than fast food and child care. Do you think this is a good idea? How's the best way to approach some big companies? And do you have any ideas of some of the best national or even international companies? I thought of doing this after Christmas.

Questions about: Acting agents, agencies, contacts, resumes, and cover letters? Hi, I am a teenager living in Greensboro, North Carolina and I want to get into the television and movies buisness (be an actress). I know that I need to create a resume but I have also heard that I can create a cover letter or somthing. Please tell me EVERYTHING I need or is good to send to agents. Also I need to find an agent and their mailing addresses to mail my resume to......how do i do that? I keep hearing about contacting your regional SAG (Screen Actor’s Guild) office. Could someone please explain to me what that is, how to contact it, and what to say, ask or, tell them? Also what is a Union (please explain in detail)?
Mailing resumes and cover letters? What is appropriate when mailing resumes and cover letters? Should it be folded or flat? Should it have hand printed addresses or printed? And when is it appropriate to follow up to see if the employer received my resume and cover letter?
Emailing cover letters: body of the email or as an attachment? Hi, just wondering. When emailing your resume/cover letter, is it okay to write your cover letter in the body of the email and attach your resume as a separate file, or should both the cover letter and resume be attached as separate files? If so, what should you write in the body of the email? Thanks

What is the deal with cover letters? Is it implied that they want one when they ask for a resume? Is the reason I never get a job because I don't include a cover letter? They are never specified in any application process but I have never got even a response from a potential job! I am a Dean's List student in college with plenty of past experience but I don't get any calls back. I am starting to get very angry. So what's the deal with cover letters?

Send email to check if cover letter, resume and references where received? Is this okay and if so, what is the proper way to write such an email? I emailed this business my cover letter, resume and references for an open position on 9/19. It should say, were received, NOT WHERE.
Send a cover letter and resume to a company I want to work for even if they do not post any job openings? I am currently employed but am looking to move on sometime in the future. There are several companies I am interested in working for. I'm needing some advice if it is ok to send a cover letter/resume to a business I am interested in even if they may not have any openings at this time. If so, what should I say in the cover letter? I don't want it to be too generic but at the same time don't want to be too specific to where I may miss out on something.
How to refer a job number when writing the cover letter/resume? I'm applying for a position and one of the notes says "Refer to Job # XXXXX" Is there a method to doing so? I put it in the subject heading and in the body of the email, but is there anywhere else I should put it? In the cover letter? On the resume? This is the first time I've ever applied to a position that requires this. It also says "no phone calls, please", so that's why I'm asking...
